Detectives investigating the shootings of four people at a busy Birmingham club today reiterated their plea for witnesses to come forward (June 14). Officers are continuing to study CCTV footage of the incident at the Custard Factory event in Digbeth in the early hours of Sunday.
Three men aged 19, 23 and 25 suffered gunshot wounds to their legs while a 25-year-old woman was shot in the foot.
Police, who have stepped up patrols around the venue in the wake of the shootings, said some clubbers at the Urban Music Event had already come forward.
They have already gathered footage from security cameras in and outside the venue along with other evidence which is currently being forensically examined. The injured woman was released from hospital following treatment, while the three male victims remain in a stable condition.
Police, who have increased patrols in and around the area, are hunting a black male in connection with the incident.
Shell casings recovered from the scene have been sent for forensic examination which could provide crucial links with other offences.
Det Chief Insp Tom Chisholm, leading the enquiry, said: “We have taken some statements but need to hear from everyone inside the club at the time.
"We are examining CCTV footage for any evidence that points to who did this, but also to trace and locate potential witnesses.” And in a direct appeal to music fans who were at the venue, he added: “Your information, however insignificant it may seem to you, could be vital in helping us find whoever is responsible for this crime.”
This is the second time the event has been held in the city following a successful first event last year.
Then two crimes were reported to police - one the theft of a purse, the second a man found to be in possession of cannabis.
Anyone who was present in the club and who witnessed the shootings is urged to contact Force CID on 0345 113 5000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. |
