Its the first high profile visit that Reverend Sharpton, a former American presidential candidate, has visited UK since 2001, when he was also invited by OBV. 
To encourage a deeper and broader relationship between Government and faith communities, Communities Secretary John Denham today announced the appointment of 13 new faith advisers who will act as a ‘sounding board’ to advise on effective engagement with faith communities, and the impact of Communities and Local Government policy on faith communities. 
A hospital porter helped by his local Citizens Advice Bureau was today awarded £35,700 after winning a major racial harassment and unfair dismissal case against his employer, a contractor for the NHS. The award, which was announced today (Wednesday 13 January) by Judge Manley at Watford Employment Tribunal, is one of the highest payments a defendant can be awarded in this type of case. 
Operation Black Vote will be hosting an ‘Express Yourself’ event on Monday 18th January 2010 aimed at encouraging young people from Black and minority ethnic communities to use their voice and use their vote in the run up to a General Election.
